Providing Guidance To Those In Need
I’m not sure how many saw XRMXX’s announcement concerning their new initiative to give female porn producers up to $25k, to assist in the production of a “porn for women, by women”? Anyhow, here was one of the comments which appeared below the announcement, from user dirtyinsecret. What follows is my reply.
“Really silly idea; like women exclusively know what porn is. Porn is not based on a gender anymore, it’s a expression. Seems more like someone really just wants to get off by entering the female sexual mind. Here’s an idea...just ask her, or read a romance novel. Or...start an a xhamster website exclusively for women called ghamster.”
My apologies, but it is not this idea which is “silly”... It’s your comment.
For whatever reason, you seem to be implying that XRMXX announced they would no longer allow any videos created by males to be posted on their platform. Are you afraid this “really silly idea” will somehow crush the porn patriarchy overnight, leaving only respectful porn, where women aren’t demeaned, diminished, belittled and abused?
Were you actually serious when you claimed that porn is no longer gender-based? “It’s an expression”, you state. Yes, that it most certainly is... An expression which is becoming increasingly more extreme in it’s abusive portrayal of women. An industry driven by its audience’s seemingly unquenchable hunger for an increasingly violent narrative with the sole purpose of further diminishing women.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not some feminist with a distinct hatred of extreme porn. I quite enjoy some of it, as long as things don’t spill over into abuse. I realize there are many who would disagree with me on this point, and I don't care. I feel the industry’s current collective trajectory is in a negative direction, and in my opinion, that is not a positive trend.
While porn should be a mosaic, consisting of the many differing perspectives of human sexuality, it should not be dominated by any one of those perspectives... Especially one which, not that long ago, dwelled almost exclusively on porn’s darker fringe. Porn which demeans, debases and dehumanizes women has no place, and it shouldn't be what drives the industry.
Anything which serves to desensitize our automatic response to v******e against women is simply not okay, and certainly should not comprise the core interest of an industry which employs many, many women. This is not like most things decidedly negative in nature, which are fine when enjoyed in moderation. The consumption of abuse porn has become excessive, and we now run the risk of having that negativity change our perspective and change our opinions... This can happen without us even being aware.
I’ve heard it said that humanity’s ability to grow accustomed to basically any situation, no matter how dismal is, at the same time, our greatest strength and biggest liability. In this case, I think it is definitely the latter which applies.
You also state in your comment, that you feel this project was only created to satisfy someone’s desire to enter the female sexual psyche. I’m unable to find any sort of validity in this opinion. Are you unable to see how a little added diversity within porn could very well be a good thing? I’m still not really grasping why you feel this is such a terrible idea.
You claim that entering the female mind is a task so simplistic, one would only need “ask her, or read a romance novel”. Thank you for clearly stating your overtly sexist opinion toward women, I appreciate not having to put any effort into proving that point.
I do find it amusing just how out of touch you seem to be with the workings of the female mind. Do you actually think that the films these female producers will create, will resemble Harlequin books? I seriously doubt it...
In the end, the most important point you miss, is that porn is not a zero-sum game. There is plenty of room for both the male and female perspective. Just because there will be new films, from new female producers doesn’t mean the male producers are going to be squeezed out. There is room for everyone in this far-reaching industry.
The majority of material will always be presented from the male perspective, and I feel that is necessary for the survival of the porn industry. The fact is, regardless of what porn tells us, men consume porn at a rate much higher than women. This will most likely never change, unless something causes a notable hormonal shift, and reverses the current balance... Which is unlikely, at best.
Your anger over XRMXX’s logical decision to give women producers more of a fighting chance in an industry which has always been male dominated is every bit as silly as your comment. It is rare that someone bares the sexist filth and deep-seeded fear of a supposed “female uprising”, (and subsequent unspeakable acts of retribution, I suppose?) which dwells within themselves with such clarity.
So, don’t fret honey. The sun will rise tomorrow... and the next day.
Yes... Even if women producers have a bigger role in porn.
